Canon HV20 User Manual
The Canon HD camera system, a combination of true HD CMOS sensor, original Canon lens, and the HD-optimized DIGIC DV II processor, is an integral part of the Canon HV20. In addition to the Super Range Optical Image Stabilizer and Canon's Instant AF system for precise and super-fast autofocus, the Canon HV20 is the first Canon consumer camcorder to feature an HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) port. HDMI is the most efficient way to connect a camcorder to a compatible TV, making it easier to enjoy high-definition video on your home screen. The Canon HV20's 2.96-megapixel True HD CMOS sensor promises exceptional video capture in full 1920x1080 HD resolution with noise reduction built into the sensor. The small dimensions and low power consumption of the HD-CMOS enabled it to develop a versatile and compact camcorder.
The Canon HV20 has both manual and automatic focus settings. Canon's Instant AF system provides fast and accurate autofocus that takes account of the increased demands on HD shooting. The Focus Wizard helps you to focus manually, making it easier to capture the most accurate and fast-focused shots. The precise 10x zoom lens of the Canon HV20, specially developed for HD, is equipped with an ND filter (Neutral Density) and the optical super-range image stabilizer. This optical image stabilizer uses new measurement methods that can compensate for both high-frequency and low-frequency vibrations in the image, such as body movements caused by the camera operator's breathing and which conventional systems often fail to detect. The optical super-range image stabilizer also has the advantage of being effective in photo mode.
The DIGIC DV II processor has been optimized for the growing demands of HD signal processing. The DIGIC DV II sensor works with a special noise reduction system that delivers low-noise images with excellent color reproduction and wide color gamut. The DIGIC DV II sensor also allows simultaneous capture of 2.07-megapixel images on the MiniSD card during filming. In photo mode, the Canon HV20 delivers image data with 1536 x 2048 pixels. Other functions for digital photography are available, such as histogram display at the touch of a button to assess the brightness distribution on the image. Built-in flash and PictBridge compatibility are also included. The HV20 offers an additional 25-p (Progressive) recording mode. This frame rate is similar to the 24 frames per second of cinema film. This mode is possible because the HD-CMOS can be read out both interlaced and progressive. Special CINE modes are available in conjunction with the 25-p recording.
